Lyn has worked with many of the North of England's top jazz musicians, groups and big bands. Further afield she has appeared at several jazz festivals, and venues in many parts of the country as occasional vocalist with the great John Miller Orchestra (John is Glenn Miller’s nephew). She also appeared with John at the Strasbourg Jazz Festival.
She recorded her debut CD ‘Blue Prelude’ with superb accompaniment by Brian Crowdy (piano), Bob Gill (guitar), Stan Szade (bass), and Nigel Cretney (drums). It was very well received, getting many airplays on local and national radio (including Humphrey Lyttelton and Desmond Carrington on BBC Radio 2).
Lyn currently sings regularly with great musicians and artists such as Bill Tarmey, John Hallam, George Galway, Jimmy Thomson, and bands led by Brian Pendleton, Vinny Parker, John Rotherham, Adrian Read, Eric Ainsworth, Ron Johnson, Dennis Morgan, Gerry Tomlinson, Mark Gillbanks and others. She has also recently worked regularly with members of ‘Excess Prophet’, a jazz group formed within the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, including Matthew Compton, Pete Willmott, Paul Turner and Julian Gregory.
In something of a deviation from her normal activities, in 2006 Lyn was ‘egged on’ by friends and family into entering for the X-Factor. Despite being patently not what they were looking for (as stated politely by Simon Cowell), and being of rather more mature years than the others, she succeeded in reaching the last 8 of Sharon Osbourne’s over 25 group. Quite an achievement, especially as she was unable to choose the songs she had to sing (apart from the initial audition), and altogether it was an amazing experience.
She is currently working on a new CD, with which she has been greatly helped by the legendary Alan Haven (of Hammond organ fame), who now specialises more in electronic keyboards and digital sound & recording equipment. Hopefully this will come to fruition soon.
